My Credentials

I’m a mom – the best job I’ve ever had, which became an even bigger challenge when my daughter was brain injured.  Learning how to fix the hurt brain of someone I loved more than life was the best challenge I ever tackled. It gave me the skills I now use to live my own best life ever, and to help other moms and dads do the same.

I’m a veteran parent of The Intensive Treatment Program at The Institutes for the Achievement of Human Potential – also recently known as The Doman Method Program at Doman International, this rigorous day-in, day-out lifestyle required to make permanent changes in a special needs child is tough. I’ve been there. I’ve done it all myself.  Creeping and crawling; running, biking, swimming, and brachiating; the rotation and elimination diets; creating intellectual materials at night to teach my child all day – word cards, homemade books, bits of intelligence. I couldn’t ask other parents to work harder than I already have. And if I could do it, so can you.

I’m a Doman Method Neurological Evaluator – after earning the highest level of parent certification at IAHP by attending the eight-part lecture series that covers the entire spectrum of child brain development, learning directly from the founder Glenn Doman, I went on to become certified by Doman International to perform functional neurological evaluations. This means parents can know exactly which areas of their child’s brain are not working properly and exactly what to do about it. The key to developing effective treatment plans is to target the cause rather than the symptoms (which never works, at least not for long).

I’m a MAF Certified Health Coach – working closely with renowned health expert Dr. Phillip Maffetone over the years and applying his pioneering methods for training world-class athletes to the physical and physiological growth of my own daughter, I was named one of the founding members of MAF Certified Practitioners. My extensive practical experience with these proven principles for creating excellent health and fitness guide my recommendations for movement, nutrition, sleep, and stress reduction. They apply to children and adults alike (ahem, that’s a heads up for you, parents).

I’m a licensed teacher with a master’s degree in Literacy, Culture and Language Education – Earning two teaching licenses and an M.S. Ed. degree from Indiana University (one of the top Education schools in the country) gave me a solid research background in language and literacy development. It also gave me enough time in a traditional classroom to see firsthand just how many students struggle in that environment without the right neurological support for their brains, and their learning, to thrive.

I’m an English teacher for non-native speakers – working with expats and international students for two decades to help them improve their English proficiency has given me a wealth of experience in understanding people from other languages and cultures. No matter where you’re from, I can help you apply these principles of brain development to your family. I understand that each culture has its own unique challenges in making these adaptations to their lifestyle. I also understand that the universal bond we share is a love for our children and a desire to see them soar.

I’m an adult literacy trainer – creating and delivering adult literacy workshops for the past ten years and training volunteers how to use successful methods in teaching adults to read has shown me just how many students fall through the cracks. It’s much harder to teach an adult to read than it is a child. As many as one in ten adults fails to read at a third grade level. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen to your child.
