You need nutritious food

Your family needs you to know this.

When I talk to parents about the importance of nutrition for the growth and development of their children's brains (which affects their reading, learning, and behavior), I always get the same questions.  They want to know which foods they should buy and which ones they should not.  And they want to know what they can substitute for the bad stuff they realize they need to give up.  I always give them straight answers based on my years of research and experience.

I know because I've been there.

My daughter, Haylie, was five years old when I learned that the solution to her developmental delays, learning and coordination problems, spasticity, hyperactivity, and seizures was largely in what I fed her.  It was life changing.  I suddenly became an avid label reader.  I spent hours in the natural food sections in grocery stores, while Haylie ran around like a whirling dervish with her mini grocery cart (read about that here).

Changing what we were used to eating was hard, for sure.  But it wasn't as hard as living with the problems that a regular diet of standard junk food and an addiction to sugar were causing.  And it certainly didn't happen overnight.  It took time to figure out what worked for us.  And what didn't.  To find substitutes for things we missed.  To try new foods and recipes to use them in.  I can save you all that time and energy by teaching you what I learned on my path to becoming a child brain developmentalist and founding member of certified MAF Method Health and Fitness Coaches.

That journey that I made for my daughter's sake (and it worked, as you can read here and here), also brought me to the best health I ever imagined for myself.  As I teach in my Vibrant Woman Course, what we eat has tremendous impact on our health, fitness, aging, hormone balance, and mental/emotional state.  Unlike so many women of my same chronological age, I am not experiencing symptoms and discomfort from being in an older body.  I have grown deeper, more confident, and more comfortable.  I am thriving.  A lot of that has to do with what doesn't end up in my shopping cart!

"Darci helped me, my son, and my family so much.  She is so   knowledgeable and articulate about nutrition’s impact on brain chemistry and overall health, I regret not talking to her sooner.  My 5-year-old son was having behavioral issues, like nonsensical tantrums and borderline violent outbursts.  We noticed a correlation to dairy intake, and cut out all milk and yogurt.  Huge, huge improvement!  But that’s as far as I could take the progress without Darci’s help.  Until I talked to her, I didn’t know why his moodiness improved or aggressive outbursts were minimized.  I was still walking on eggshells around my son, not sure if the problems would return.  But Darci put words and facts and science behind my observations, and explained things in such a straightforward and loving way.  She gave helpful tips for taking his nutritional improvement to the next level to keep him (and our whole family) on the right path.  She’s a mother too and knows how stressful making choices for our children can be.  I’m much less nervous about dealing with his food sensitivities and behavior from now on.  Darci’s advice and insights on nutrition needs to be followed by all of us, not just those with trouble learning; it impacts everyone."

Update:
"Josh is doing great with no dairy in almost a year.  Did I tell you how much his learning improved last year?"
